JON'S BUSHCRAFT
Welcome! I am a Bushcraft enthusiast based in Warwickshire, England. This website is a representation of some of the Bushcraft projects I have undertaken. Below are some of my latest projects but please see the articles page where you can view over 20 Bushcraft tutorials. I have written these tutorials mainly as inspirational guides; if they spark an interest for Bushcraft and nature in just a hand full of people then my effort writing them has been worth while. Have fun and take care! May natures spirit and wisdom be with you... Jonathan Ridgeon.

THE FIRST TASKS
Five steps to survival.
Positive Mental Attitude
All Pages

Stop! Think! Observe! Plan!

So when we find ourselves in a survival situation the first thing we do is;

DONT PANIC!

STOP and take time to think about where you are, what kit you have on your person and take a look around you.

Go through what you know about survival,

1: Are you injured?

2: Do you need to stay out for the night

3:Can you get yourself home before night fall

If not go through your kit and start to think about what your needs are, I would start with these subjects;

1:shelter

2:fire

3:water

4:food

First, SHELTER... Have you got shelter with you? Do you need to build a shelter? Whatever you need to do, do it! get yourself out of the elements.

Next, FIRE... Do you have fire starting capabilities? if so use them, if not what other methods do you know and apply them.

Next, WATER... Do you have a water bottle?, if not, then why not? can you improvise a water carrying device?

Now have a scout around to find some water, if its raining improvise a bit of clothing to catch rain water. Now any water collected from rivers, lakes and other sources should be purified, either with a pump purifier or better still boiling it up as you will utilize the fire again.

Looking at your situation and taking in to account your health and the last time you ate a decent meal, ask yourself "do you know enough about wild edibles?" and "do you actually need some food?". You may only need to stay out one night to get home the next day, so think it out and plan carefully.

BE SAFE AND LEARN EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO BETTER YOUR KNOWLEDGE TO BECOME MORE SELF RELIANT AND WILDERNESS AWARE!
